Aqua Idea Workshop and Idea Aquathone organized
Alltech Pakistan organized the Idea Aquathon and Aqua Idea Workshop. This Aqua Workshop was held at Jinnah University for Women Karachi. On the other hand, the Aqua Conference was held in Islamabad. In the Fisheries Conference and Fisheries Workshop, experts emphasized on blue strategy for Aquaculture development in Pakistan. In Karachi, they especially discussed the role of Women in Aquaculture. This was annual Aquaculture Conference.

Focusing on the sustainability of aquaculture, food security, and climate change challenges, experts highlighted different aspects in Aqua Workshop. Moreover, they also linked it with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Aqua Workshop in Karachi
Dr. Ali Muhammad Mastoi, Director General Fisheries Sindh, provided updates on recent aquaculture development in Sindh in this Aqua Workshop. Baby Tooba, Lecturer at Dept. of Zoology, Jinnah University for Women Karachi, highlighted different aspects of disease management in aquaculture. Furthermore, Dr. Rehan Ashraf showcased the Alltech Aqua Value Creation model in this Fisheries Workshop.

During the Aqua Workshop, Obaid-ur-Rehman shed light on the most critical challenges faced by Pakistan’s aquaculture sector over the past three years. On the other hand, Dr. Ijaz Yousaf presented a comprehensive Aquaculture Pakistan Survey 2024. Moreover, an International expert David Kawahigashi, Technical Director of vannamei101, discussed the successful shrimp farming business.
Role of Women in Aquaculture Development
During the panel discussion at the Fisheries Workshop, the panelists shared inspiring stories of women and the role of women in aquaculture development. Dr. Shahzad Naveed Jadoon highlighted entrepreneurial opportunities for women in aquaculture. They encouraged the active participation of women in aquaculture for sustainability. He added that women are custodians of our future food. Women can serve as efficient driver for sustainable aquaculture in Pakistan.

Idea Aquathone – Aqua Conference
During the Aqua Conference in Islamabad, Dr. Shahzad Naveed Jadoon presented an in-depth view of aquaculture. He covered global and local developments. However, he also outlined future disruptive opportunities. Besides this, he introduced a Blue Strategy for sustainable and resilient aquaculture at this fisheries conference.
Dr. Muhammad Akram, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, appreciated the Idea Aquathon and Fisheries Conference. Dr. Amina Zuberi, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, Quaid-e-Azam University emphasized the best management practices for the best performance of good quality strain. Moreover, she also linked it with balanced formulated feed.
Dr. Muhammad Afzal focused on hatcheries in the private sector for farmers’ facilitation. Furthermore, Dr. Rehana Kausar, Senior Scientific Officer, NARC proposed incentivizing aquaculture farmers to sacrifice old brood stock and introduce new genetic lines.

Farmers in Aqua Conference
Besides experts, farmers also gave their input to this Aquaculture Conference for blue strategy. Rana Ghulam Mustafa shared his experience of the separate rearing of fish sexes. He said this strategy increased production many folds. On the other hand, Ch. Muhammad Azam stressed producing specific feeds for different stages of fish life. Furthermore, Muzammil Aftab urged the farmers to look for Genetically Modified (GM) products for fish farming in Aquaculture Conference.
During this Fisheries Conference, Mr. Salahudin highlighted the importance of post-harvest and fish processing faculties. Moreover, Dr. Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad, and other experts also expressed their views.
